Paris Patterns
This selection of photographs was taken between two trips to Paris in 2012 and 2016. After that first trip, I became fascinated by the images I had taken of Paris’ famous Eiffel Tower. I had hundreds of photos of the same building taken from slightly different angles, and yet each subtle change in perspective brought out entirely new contours, negative space, and overlapping shapes.
I found myself manipulating the photos in different ways, and became interested in disassembling the architectural patterns. By reflecting and reassembling the parts into a new composition, the structural framework of the building disappeared into abstraction. And yet, there was still beauty in them -- not unlike looking through a kaleidoscope.
When I returned to Paris in 2016 I knew what I wanted and pulled my family along with me as I walked up and down the Eiffel Tower for hours hunting for new perspectives and new patterns.
